Evaluation Support Scotland

Evaluation Support Scotland (ESS) works with third sector organisations and funders so that they can measure and report on their impact. Our aim is to make evaluation valuable, relevant and proportionate. Our website gives access to evaluation tools and support. We explain our work with funders to make reporting more useful. And we share learning about the difference the third sector makes. The website provides many tools – we have listed several below the main hyperlink.

  • Should we evaluate co-production and can we evaluate in a co-productive way?

A discussion of whether co-production should be evaluated and if so, how to evaluate it co-productively.

  • Fit-for-purpose evaluation – if I knew then what I know now!

A discussion around the use of fit-for-purpose evaluation tools and how they make the lives of those involved easier.

  • Why does evaluation matter in co-production?

A blog from Dawn Smith (Public Engagement Officer: Edinburgh Napier University) about the Scottish Co-Production Network’s workshop on Evaluating Co-Production which featured input from ESS Director Steven Marwick talking about the benefits and challenges of co-production in evaluation.

  • Evidence for what? Lessons from the third sector. Event summary and actions.

This report summarises the main messages from roundtable discussions at the Evidence for What? event. It also identifies the action points that Evaluation Support Scotland will take forward in 2018 and embed in future work on evidence.

  • Inspiring impact case study: Getting colleagues on board with evaluation.

This case study tells the story of how Changeworks, one of Scotland’s largest environmental charities, got colleagues on board to embed their evaluation systems through the whole organisation.

  • Resources for setting outcomes and indicators.

A page of tools and links to assist with ensuring everyone is on board with the evaluation process, and they have clear statements about the outcomes of the project or organisation.
